Squamish Water Taxi is asking residents and commuters to register their interest in an on-call water shuttle that would run when Highway 99 closes.

The Sea to Sky Highway is the only road linking Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler. Landslides, avalanches and serious collisions can close it for hours, stranding commuters, workers and visitors with no way around.

How it would work

The proposed service would run boats across Howe Sound during highway closures, giving people a way to get where they need to be while the road is shut.

The service is not running yet. Squamish Water Taxi is first gathering interest to understand demand before committing a boat and crew.

How to help

Anyone who travels the corridor can register at strandedonthe99.com with their typical route and contact details. The responses will decide whether the service launches and which routes it covers.
