Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Passes 300 Million Free Books, and Now There's a Coffee for It
Cup of Ambition, made with Community Coffee, sends proceeds to the program that mails books to young children.
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which mails free books to children from birth to age five, has now delivered more than 300 million books since it launched in 1995, according to Good Good Good.
A cup for a cause
Parton has a new way to fund it. Her Cup of Ambition coffee, a nod to the lyrics of "9 to 5," is made with Louisiana roaster Community Coffee, and proceeds support the Imagination Library, Rolling Stone reports. Community Coffee also funds school programs in Louisiana.
How fans celebrated
For "9 to 5" day, fans marked the occasion by donating children's books to Little Free Libraries in their neighborhoods.
Why early reading matters
Children who grow up with books at home tend to arrive at school with larger vocabularies and stronger reading readiness. The Imagination Library partners with local organizations that cover the cost of books, so families pay nothing.
