Broadway Flea Market Raises Nearly $1.5 Million for HIV/AIDS Relief Despite Stormy Weather
The 40th edition brought the event's all-time total to more than $22 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Rain did not stop Broadway fans. The 40th Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction, held September 27 at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom, raised $1,487,927 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Playbill reports.
Four decades of giving
The flea market, where theater lovers buy props, signed Playbills, costumes and meet-and-greets with stars, has run since 1987. Across its history it has now raised more than $22 million.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS funds HIV/AIDS services, food and medical programs across the U.S., and the Entertainment Community Fund, which supports people working in the performing arts.
